Ministries of South India

St. Sebastian Parish, under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Goa, Daman and Diu is situated towards the southern end of Goa and is thus close to the border of the state of Karnataka. The boundaries of this parish go along the coast on one side while large forests surround the other sides. Originally, a small chapel was constructed in 1904 where the faithful would gather for Sunday Mass and other occasional celebrations. Later, in November 1932, St. Sebastian Parish was erected and was ministered to by the priests of the archdiocese. The total population of Loliem is about 8000 people, of which Catholics would number about 3500 people. This number has been increasing in recent years. In 1999, this parish was entrusted to Holy Cross for pastoral administration. Holy Cross priests Frs. Heinencio, Aloysius Gonsalves and Lawrence D'Almeida served here here earlier.

The people of this parish are generally poor people but are fervent and enthusiastic in the practice of their religion. Presently, two Holy Cross priests minister the parish with the support of an active parish council called the fabriĉa. At the present moment, the priests and the people are actively engaged in raising funds for re-building the parish church and presbytery. Recently, the clergy have moved into the brand new presbytery they built (blessed on January 31st). April 18th, 2006 is marked for the blessing and inauguration of the new church.
